Quilters' Guild, York

Following the success of our group trip last year, we decided to visit York where the Quilters' Guild is based at St Anthony's Hall .  Although the Quilters' Guild Museum is no longer open, we were able to book a special talk by Heather Audin, Head of Archives.  Heather showed us a wide variety of textiles from their extensive collection and her presentation and expertise really brought them all to life . The textiles included a beautifully embroidered stomacher from 1730, a fabulous crazy patchwork and embroidery jacket made in 1947 using a Dior New Look pattern and a patchwork bikini from 1970

In the afternoon we had a guided tour of Fairfax House and there was still plenty of time for shopping, sightseeing. and tea at Betty's.  We all had a great weekend and an annual trip seems set to be a regular event!
